It is really dependent upon the terrain it is being utilized in. However, no camo is effective if one doesn't know how to use it. (I.e. limiting motion, avoiding "skylining," moving deliberately when movement is necessary, properly utilizing natural concealment, etc.)
I remember reading the theory someplace that the smaller-patterned camo (such as digital) was more useful for paintball than it was for real world situations because at longer ranges the smaller patterns tend to blend into a greyish/brownish blob that can stand out in certain terrain. The author postulated from this that the reverse would also be true; that is, that the larger-patterned camo (such as standard woodland BDUs) would be less effective in paintball. However, I have not seen anything that supports this theory. What I have seen is a fellow player in a bright red speedball jersey with a shiny red/silver marker who could disappear in the brush because he knew what he was doing. I also know a gentleman who plays in an old stained set of blue coveralls that hide him quite effectively in the wooded area I usually play in. (He limits his movement, sticks to concealing foliage when he moves and blends into shadows.) Edited Addition: The above poster is right (I wasn't paying attention to the section this was in). I was going to tell you to ask a mod to do it, but I will use the report post feature to do that for you. Second Edit: The forum rules are stickied at the top of the New Players Section. You should peruse them. Edited by Mack - 02 November 2009 at 6:39pm |

BDU= Battle Dress Utilities, generally Woodland camouflage scheme
Tiger stripe works best in pine tree areas (IMO) try MARPAT, damn good scheme. |

I've always been a huge fan of German flektarn since I could buy a shirt or pair of trousers for $10 and for me it has been very effective. I think it shines under a canopy of evergreens with needles on the ground and lots of shadows. Vegetation in the shrub layer like ferns and laurels that are common in those types of forrests make it all the better.
Tigerstripe is also great since the pattern is counter to what the brain is looking for when you're searching for a human form in the woods. I think this pattern is good when there's a dense green shrub layer. MARPAT and Multi-Cam seem to be the best all-around patterns IMHO |
