As a big fan of black powder shooting, I've been pining over one of these things forever! It's a LeMat percussion pistol. 9 black powder .44 rounds, housed around a 5" smoothbore 20g. barrel. Ferocious and beautiful, as far as firearms go. And since it's an "antique firearm," I don't need to go through crazy red-tape, licensing or age limits to get one! I just $800... That's right. A shotgun and a pistol, wrapped up into one nice litt... er, rather large package. Edit: This is probably my 2nd favorite percussion pistol. It's basically the Old West Desert Eagle. One of these days. This is more or less a thread about the rather limited hobby of black powder shooting.

in b4 "Tacky" Actually, I do pursue this one. I already own a .44 "mutt." It's supposed to be an 1841 Colt Navy, but Colt Navys were only in .38. Here's an older pic:

![]() We've got both the LeMatts and the Walker, as well as the .36 Navy and a few .44 colts Army models. I'm a bigger fan of the Remington new Army revolvers though. My sister has a beautiful brass frame Remington. The LeMatt is a monster to shoot. |

Were the Navys .36? I always forget. Such an oddball caliber. And yeah, I prefer the Remingtons over the Colts as well. Better feel IMO. My dad's friend has a nice nickeled Remington, and it was a blast (tee hee) to shoot. Edited by DeTrevni - 02 June 2008 at 4:42pm |

I'm not sure if the navy's were universally .36, I know we have one though.
The remington's are a lot more sturdy than the colts, and much easier to change a cylinder on the fly. |

Yeah. A Remington and a few cylinders strapped to your belt, and you're ready for a Wild West showdown! Those round balls will mess a person up.

When I reenacted dismounted cavalry, I carried one remington, and two spare cylinders....and I was one of the least armed members of our unit. They were a bunch of lunatics. ![]() |
